MGC Exit Strategy

MGC opened a position, ran for like 35 points and then came all the way back and hit SL. Is the ATR exit strategy the best one? Is there not a 2:1 or 1:1 exit strategy that could work? I've heard others saying this happens a decent amount. If not, and the ATR strat has the best stats then no worries. Just curious.
